Social Studies
LUYA ensures that students learn research skills, critical reading skills, and thinking skills. Students practice inductive reasoning and build practical geography skills. Social studies offers students a variety of opportunities for hands-on project-based learning that brings concepts of the individual, the community, and the nation to life. Throughout every unit of study, students gain leadership experience by participating in group projects.

Our students learn social studies so that they can understand more about the world, Taiwan, other countries, other people, and themselves. They are encouraged to see that different ways of thinking and living can not only add richness to experiences, but also spur innovation and progress.

Much the opposite of old-fashioned memorization, students instead learn soft skills like persuasive argument, problem-solving, and public speaking when they take part in social studies classes at LUYA Academy. At the end of each year, students come out of their social studies course with a set of concrete skills and tools they can apply to their own lives and their future studies.
The Chinese social studies curriculum includes courses of civics, geography, and history. We teach our students to care for others and to practice self-reflection and awareness. Students develop an appreciation of the past and an understanding of the present and future through learning the history of humans and civilizations, in particular Taiwan’s history.
