Learning & Assessment

We aim to build a culture of learning that values responsibility, honesty and self-discipline, so that students become independent, motivated, lifelong learners.

Teacher leading a class discussion

How students learn

Students actively take part in discussions and activities, listen attentively and complete their work to the best of their ability. Inquiry gives their curiosity a clear, purposeful structure.

  • IB Learner Profile: ten attributes of internationally minded learners — inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective
  • Approaches to Learning (ATL): thinking, communication, social, self-management and research skills

Assessment and feedback

1

Clear criteria

LUYA uses a variety of grading methods, including letter grades, numerical scores and skill-based assessments. Assessments are based on specific grading criteria and expectations.

2

Regular feedback

Regular feedback and progress reports help students and parents stay informed about academic and overall school performance.

3

Support when needed

Teachers differentiate instruction, and reasonable assessment accommodations, such as extra time or modified tasks, may be provided where appropriate.

4

Homework

Students are encouraged to complete most of their schoolwork at school, with exceptions for long-term projects. Daily reading at home is expected, and homework grows gradually with grade level.

Academic integrity

Honest work builds trust

Academic integrity means completing your own work, giving proper credit when using others’ ideas or words, and avoiding cheating, copying or plagiarism. Students follow their teachers’ instructions on the use of AI tools.

By practising academic integrity, students build trust, responsibility and personal pride in their achievements.
