LUYA’s curriculum is based on our vision and mission of creating an environment that will grow hearts and minds. We teach students how to solve problems through diversity of thought and skills so that they can be active participants in creating a sustainable future for themselves and for others. The curriculum structure is divided into the “core curriculum” and the “prospective curriculum.”

Core Curriculum

With knowledge, understanding, and life applicability as key pillars, our core curriculum includes five subjects: Mandarin, English, Math and Logic, Natural Sciences, and Social Studies. These five subjects are the foundation and building blocks to learning and life. Using our framework, we ensure students fully understand the content, allowing them to apply their learning in many aspects of their lives.

Prospective Curriculum

Our courses in the prospective curriculum include STEAM, Computer Science, Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Character, Life Orientation, Third Language, PE, and Sports. These courses compliment our core courses by being subjects where students will use different parts of their brains and will build the ability to think about and to see things through different lenses.

The Arts
Emphasis is placed on cultivating an eye and an appreciation for art and an ability to express oneself through artistic mediums. Students will learn similar themes in a variety of subjects through different lenses, including art, drama, dance, and music. The arts is not only a possible talent and career pathway, but it also opens their creativity in problem solving, innovation, and communication.
STEAM and Computer Science
In STEAM and Computer Science, students learn how to use and manipulate modern technologies to bring to life their own designs. STEAM consists of hands-on and practical lessons, and combined with their Computer Science understanding, the possibilities of our students' futures will feel limitless.
English Language Arts
We want to give our students the best potential to thrive in this age of globalization that will only become more intertwined by equipping them with the two most used languages in the world - English and Mandarin. The goal is for students to feel just as confident reading, speaking, and listening in English as they are in their native language.
PE and Sports
Physical well-being is very important not just for the benefits of being active, but also for opening up opportunities and interests. We want to offer our students experiences that they may not have encountered otherwise to develop a love for sports, teamwork, and staying active. We offer a variety of sports - soccer, ice skating, horse riding, tennis, and more.
Mandarin
Our Mandarin classes develop students' skills in reading comprehension, writing, and oral presentations. Students will learn how to communicate most effectively whether it is for personal expression or for professional purposes.
Character and Life Orientation
The character of our students is just as important as their achievements in other subjects. At LUYA, we hope to grow empathetic, compassionate, and giving leaders. Students learn how to navigate their emotions and how to live healthy lifestyles while upholding good values and morals .
Third Language
Along with already being a bilingual curriculum, we also offer a third language. Broadening their linguistic skills will give our students a real appreciation for different cultures, languages, and peoples. Having an understanding of three languages will also set our students apart from many and will be an incredibly valuable skill in life and in their careers.
Mathematics
Mathematics is vital in developing the logical side of problem solving that can be married with the creative side we also cultivate. Math will be taught in both Mandarin and English. This way students will achieve deep conceptual understanding of mathematical theories as well as the language used in Math discourse
Social Studies
Social Studies teaches students how societies function and the systems and systemic issues that are integral to societies. Students will learn about themselves and their lives as well as other peoples' lives. This comprehension will deepen compassion, understanding of others and of social issues, and grow international perspectives that value diversity of peoples, backgrounds, and thoughts.
Natural Sciences
Our Natural Science classes emphasize not only knowledge of scientific theories, but also of research and experimentation. Students are always applying their knowledge in personal research projects to exhibit true understanding and to practice solving questions.
